Mystical

Story reference: The King of the Golden Mountain — Brothers Grimm.

For “Mystical,” I drew a woman with a snake draped around her shoulders. It isn’t a scene from Grimm, but if you’re interested in a snake that turns into a princess, The King of the Golden Mountain has you covered.

A young man finds her in an enchanted castle and agrees to endure three nights of torment to break the spell. He succeeds, she restores him to life, and they marry. You might reasonably expect the story to end there.

Unfortunately, there are still several pages left.

What follows involves a broken promise, a stolen wishing ring, three giants being relieved of their belongings and a wedding that ends with considerably fewer heads than it began with.

I like finding these lesser-known tales. You go in expecting a bit of enchantment and come out wondering what the hell you’ve just read. This one certainly earns its place.
