Contraption

Story reference: The Iron Stove — Brothers Grimm.

For “Contraption,” I drew an enchanted iron stove with a prince trapped inside it.

I tend to read these stories and come away with a lesson nobody intended. The advice about keeping promises and persevering is clear enough. I’m usually more interested in what the characters are getting away with.

In this case, a woman frees a prince from a stove, then goes through considerable trouble to find him again. By the time she reaches him, he’s preparing to marry someone else!

Apparently, rescuing a man doesn’t mean he’ll make much effort to find out what happened to you.

She should have left him in the stove.
